ABOUT US

Dr. Adam Lewee Kar Scholarship Foundation

The Dr. Adam Lewee Kar Scholarship Foundation was born out of love for Liberia and a deep desire to restore hope through education. Dr. Adam Lewee Kar and his wife, Edith, both children of Liberia, know first-hand the struggles young people face in their pursuit of learning. They grew up in local communities, sat in overcrowded classrooms, and endured the many hardships that come with seeking quality education in a country where opportunities are scarce. These memories remain vivid, fueling their lifelong commitment to making education accessible for all.

When Dr. Kar returned to Liberia in 2014, 2016, and 2017, he was deeply moved by the urgency of the situation. Schools lacked resources, children struggled to stay enrolled, and the dream of education felt out of reach for too many. With more than 45 years of experience as an educator and Edith’s long and compassionate career as a nurse, they both felt called to act. They believed that while they could not solve every problem, they could plant seeds of hope—one student at a time. Out of this conviction, the Dr. Adam Lewee Kar Scholarship Foundation was established.

At its heart, the Foundation is dedicated to lifting financial burdens from students with dreams of learning but without the means to achieve them. Each scholarship awarded is more than financial aid—it is a chance for a brighter future, an opportunity to dream bigger, and a promise that someone believes in them. While the Foundation depends on the generosity of supporters and the availability of funds, every contribution helps open doors that once seemed closed.

The mission is simple but powerful: to nurture the next generation of leaders, healers, and innovators in Liberia. Through education, hope is reborn—and with hope, an entire nation can rise.

Our Scholars: Scholarship/Financial Aid Recipients

Our scholarship recipients are not just doing well in school—they are blossoming. Each day, they strive toward excellence, determined to rise above the challenges that once stood in their way. Today, more than half of our students are building strong foundations in elementary school (53%), while others are pushing forward in junior high/middle school (26%), high school (20%), and even college and university (6%). These numbers are more than statistics—they represent dreams in motion, futures being rewritten, and a generation of leaders in the making. With every new source of funding, we can reach more children, lift more burdens, and give more young minds the chance to shine.
